Jake Bollman Battles Through Adversity at Chicagoland Speedway

Jake Bollman faced one of the most challenging races of his 2026 ARCA Menards Series season this past weekend at Chicagoland Speedway, overcoming an early near-spin and a difficult fuel-saving strategy to bring the No. 20 Nitro Motorsports Toyota home in eighth place.

The return to Chicagoland marked one of the most anticipated events on the ARCA Menards Series schedule, with the 1.5-mile oval demanding both speed and strategy. After showing strong pace throughout the weekend, Bollman qualified third, putting the No. 20 Toyota in an excellent position to contend near the front when the green flag waved.

The race took an unexpected turn almost immediately.

Battling for position in the opening laps, Bollman found himself in a precarious situation that nearly ended his afternoon before it had a chance to get going. The No. 20 Toyota broke loose entering Turn 1, but Bollman made an impressive save to keep the car from spinning completely. While the recovery prevented significant damage, it came at the cost of valuable track position as the field raced past.

Rather than letting the early setback define his race, Bollman regrouped and began working his way forward. The Nitro Motorsports team maintained a competitive race car throughout the afternoon, allowing him to climb back through the field and keep himself in contention for another strong finish.

As the race entered its closing stages, another obstacle emerged.

Following the team's fuel calculations, Bollman was informed that the No. 20 Toyota was about five laps short of making it to the finish. Instead of continuing to race at full pace, he was forced into an aggressive fuel-saving strategy over the final run.

To ensure the team could reach the checkered flag without running out of fuel, Bollman lifted early into the corners, conserved every possible drop of fuel, and ultimately allowed two competitors to pass in the closing laps. While sacrificing positions was frustrating, it was the only way to avoid running dry before the finish.

Bollman crossed the finish line in eighth place—a result that fell well short of the team's expectations after qualifying near the front and showing the speed to compete throughout the weekend. However, considering the combination of the opening-lap scare and the late-race fuel situation, the No. 20 team was able to salvage valuable championship points from what could have been a much more difficult afternoon.

Although Chicagoland did not produce the finish Bollman and Nitro Motorsports were looking for, the race highlighted the team's resilience. Recovering from an early mistake, adapting to changing race circumstances, and making disciplined decisions under pressure allowed the team to turn a potentially disastrous day into one that kept their championship hopes intact.

With another race in the books, Bollman and the No. 20 Nitro Motorsports team now shift their focus to Lime Rock Park, determined to build on the speed they showed in their TA-2 race there back in May.
